Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that navigating your health journey can come with questions, and we’re here to help.
How long does it take?
Because you don’t have to change clothes and there are no needles, no dyes, and no prep time needed, it’s one of the fastest and easiest medical tests you can take in less than 5 minutes.
Does insurance cover ILLUMO scans?
Most commercial insurers, including Medicare, do not cover these types of scans. However, we have financing programs designed to fit your budget with monthly payment plans starting at less than $100 a month.
Who should get a scan?
Our scan is ideal for individuals who feel healthy and want to take a proactive approach to their well-being by gaining insight into their body with potential early detection. If you are experiencing specific symptoms, we recommend consulting your primary care provider for a targeted evaluation. Not sure if our service is right for you? Contact us, and we’ll gladly assist you before you make a decision.
Are your Full-Body CT Scans painful?
No, it is a completely non-invasive scan. There are no needles, no dyes to drink, no fasting, no medications required, and the entire process takes less than five minutes.
How much is a Full Body scan?
A full Body scan which includes your Heart and a Calcium Score ( heart disease being the number one killer in the US) is only $2497.
What can I see on a Full-Body CT scan?
A full body CT scan provides a detailed look inside your body, often detecting conditions before symptoms appear. With advanced imaging technology, you can see:
- Early signs of disease — including tumors, cysts, lesions, or abnormal growths.
- Organ health — such as the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, and digestive system.
Vascular system — plaque build-up, aneurysms, or blockages in blood vessels that may lead to heart disease or stroke.
- Spine, bones, and musculoskeletal system — arthritis, herniated discs, or other degenerative changes.
Many health conditions develop silently. A preventive full body scan helps with early detection, providing peace of mind and empowering you to make informed health decisions.
What can I see on a Full-Body MRI scan?
A full body MRI scan offers a comprehensive view inside your body, revealing details that other imaging methods may miss. With advanced magnetic resonance technology, you can see:
- Early signs of disease — including tumors, cysts, inflammation, or abnormal tissue changes before symptoms arise.
- Organ and soft tissue health — such as the brain, spinal cord, liver, kidneys, reproductive organs, and digestive system.
- Vascular system — blood flow irregularities, aneurysms, or vessel narrowing that may contribute to stroke or heart disease.
- Spine, joints, and musculoskeletal system — herniated discs, arthritis, ligament tears, or early degenerative changes.
Because many conditions develop silently, a preventive full body MRI helps with early detection. It provides peace of mind and empowers you to make informed, proactive decisions about your health.
What's the difference between an MRI and Computed Tomography (CT) body scan?
Both MRI and CT body scans are powerful diagnostic imaging tools, but they serve different purposes:
CT Scan (Computed Tomography)
- Uses X-rays to create cross-sectional images of bones, blood vessels, and organs.
- Best for detecting cancers, heart disease, lung conditions, internal bleeding, or injuries.
- Fast and convenient — most CT body scans take less than 5 minutes.
- At Illumo, our CT scans use a proprietary low-dose radiation protocol, designed to minimize exposure while still delivering exceptional image quality.
- Recommended base age: 30+, as CT is best suited for adults with higher risk for silent disease development.
- If you experience claustrophobia, CT may be the more comfortable option due to its speed and shorter scan time.
*MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
- Uses strong magnets and radio waves.
- Produces highly detailed images of soft tissues, brain, spine, nerves, and joints.
- Longer scan times — usually 30–60 minutes.
- Recommended base age: 18+, making it an excellent preventive option for younger adults who want detailed insights without radiation.
- If you have mild claustrophobia, rest assured that Illumo uses large-bore MRI systems, designed to create a more open, comfortable scanning experience.
*FULL BODY MRI ONLY AVAILABLE AT OUR HOUSTON LOCATION
In short:
A CT scan is quick, highly effective for early whole-body disease detection, and ideal for patients who prefer speed or may struggle with claustrophobia. MRI offers unmatched detail of soft tissues with no radiation, and our large-bore MRI scanners provide greater comfort.
At Illumo, we offer both imaging options so you can get the most accurate, proactive picture of your health at any stage of life.
What can I expect during the scan?
Our scans are designed with your comfort in mind, requiring no injections, dyes, fasting, or other preparations. To begin the scan, you will lie down on the table, go in feet first and the whole process takes less than five minutes as it quickly and painlessly capture images of your organs, including your heart, lungs, and other organs – as well as the vessels around your heart looking for early signs of heart disease and up to 500 cancers and other diseases. It will take multiple helical images of your organs, your heart, and its vessels, looking for the earliest signs of heart disease, cancer, and many other diseases.
